The Entrepreneur Bootcamp Advantage
Getting The Lead Out
While majoring in marketing with an emphasis on entrepreneurship at the University of Idaho, Sage Francetich and classmate Garrett Hall of Viola, Idaho entered several business-plan competitions using Hall’s concept for ReSink, a smart, safe way to attach a small rock to a fishing line rather than a slug of lead. If the rock gets caught on something, a quick tug releases the rock from the ReSink harness, the angler reels in the line, finds another rock and continues fishing.
“It’s been known since 1971 that lead sinkers are harmful to the environment”, Francetich explains.
The pair won the U of I’s annual Business Plan competition, funding their sign up for the Palouse Knowledge Corridor™ 2015’s Be The Entrepreneur Bootcamp™ (BTE Bootcamp™). And that, Francetich recalls, is when things got real. Francetich and Hall arrived at the BTE Bootcamp™ knowing they wanted ReSink to be part of a bigger-picture idea for a company centered around fishing. The resulting Four Mile Fishing is now an LLC, with Francetich formally named as Chief Marketing Officer.
“By the time we’d done three or four competitions, we thought we knew what we wanted to happen with ReSink,” he explains. “By the end of BTE Bootcamp™, we were going, ‘Wow, we really didn’t know as much about launching a business as we thought we did.’ And I mean that in a positive way because it was an awesome experience.”
“BTE Bootcamp™ was a fascinating and eye-opening experience,” he says. ‘It was all about ideas versus reality’ and believes the prize money from various competitions to have been well spent.”
Presently, the launch of Four Mile Fishing is on hold while Francetich and Hall work on launching their regular, post-undergrad careers. Francetich joined Team Idaho Real Estate in January 2016 as a Realtor, a field that requires considerable sustained entrepreneurial effort. It’s a great fit, he says, for his degree and the knowledge boost he gained from Bootcamp.
Resink offers products from their online store based in Viola, Idaho, where Hall resides.
