Why Did You Come?
BTE Bootcamp™ 2016 alumni Gabriel Rench and Adam Ratliff founded Recraft Media after seeing a need for advanced marketing strategies in education and workforce spaces. This duo hoped to continue to develop their business at BTE Bootcamp™ and to expand their professional network.
Q: Tell us a little bit about who you are and what you do.
Recraft Media is a tech marketing firm. We design websites and smartphone applications around marketing strategies for education and workforce organizations.
Q: What is your business? What made you want to start your business?
Adam and I first worked on a marketing project together when I was managing sales for Economic Modeling Specialist. It was a small project for an association out of DC, but had a surprising impact. This opened our eyes and exposed a real need for well-thought-out and executed marketing strategies in the education and workforce space. I left EMSI at the end of January to focus on Recraft Media.
Q: Why did you decide to attend BTE Bootcamp™? What were you looking forward to?
Gene Merril is a friend of mine and when he found out I was leaping out into the entrepreneurial world, he told me about BTE and it sounded like a good idea for Recraft.
Q: What were you expecting to get out of the BTE Bootcamp™ experience?
- I would like to solidify our business model and make sure we are heading the right direction.
- I would like to be challenged in our business model, as that will help me think through our vision and direction.
- I would like to get business leaders feedback and advice.
Q: What are your goals with your business, both during and after BTE Bootcamp™?
We are looking for a couple pilot colleges for our smartphone app, and possibly looking for a strategic investor. Those are our two big goals right now.
Q: As entrepreneurs, what has your experience been like on the Palouse so far? How do you think BTE Bootcamp™ may change that?
It has been good. A lot of hard work, a lot of unknowns. I would not expect starting my own company would have gone much differently. We have had some real successes, and some real challenges. Both Adam and I hope this company turns into a real blessing for our families and for this community. BTE will be a big help in sorting through our weaknesses and giving us the tools we need to focus on our strengths.
